MIGRATION:What can a helpless do about forced migration?

All over the world, people associate migration wit aftermaths of war, femine, and other related problems. However, here in kenya, a group of certain communities are bound to face one such event from the hands of the govenment that is supossed to help them. This is the coastal community in kwale whose land are supposedly to be bought by the government in order to pave way for the mining of the Tittanium by a Canadian company. What is worrieng is not the issue of buying the farm but rather, how it is done. The question that most of the locals ask is whether the government has a right to force them to bu the land from them. They argue that they deserve to get proper compensation to let them get land elswere but the government is admant. Through a court ruling rescently, it was rulled that the government indeed has a right to by the land for at the price which the locals do not agree with. This again raises one question, "Where will these people go to after eviction?".It is common knowledge that most citizens in kenya lose land at a fast rate to many land developers and the result is settlement on such important areas as the forests. The net effect is that a lot of areas that are supposed to be protected are settled upon and the government hands get tied up asit is the same factor that led them to that situation. These can be seen when many, after selling thair lands voluntarily to many rich developers opted to by land cheaply from forests and wetlands such as MAU forest which is a major water catchment. The question that we are now asking ourseves, should the need for economic gain overide the fundamental rights of individual citizens to own and maintain LAND and dispose it at owns wish?

TO ADOPT OR NOT TO ADOPT

I have been looking at the news for the past one week or so and I can't help but post a comment on the issue of the superstar Maddona adopting a Malawian son.I just wished that the child had the opportunity to speak for himself. If indead Maddona found the child sick at the time, then what was wrong in her taking the child for care.I must admit that it could have been against Malawian adoption lows, but this is a case abouth the childs survival. As advocates of the children who are undeprevilaged, we should weigh many factors before we start arguing for or against the adoption.Personaly if I were the child, I would have opted to go with Maddona rather than remaining behind to languish in poverty and ilness. If their is good prospect of this child having the best opportunity while undercare of Maddona, then I dont see anything wrong with that.It is true taht the child may not have the best cultural values that he disserve, but all of us should remember that we are at a time when we are fighting for cultural intergration to have a unified world where each and everyones culture is equal omong equals for us also to live in peace with one another. So the bottom line is that the child would be even more at an advantagious position than we ever thought and you never know, he may turn out to be one of the future prominet leader in our time. This can only happen if he get the opporunity to be so.We should therefore encourage the likes of Maddona instead of discouraging the likes of Maddona.I say this as an African who understand the life that we have.We are also at the same time trying to change our lives sop that such scenaorios may not be necessary. But in the meantime, let Maddona and her like come to the aid of those who are sufering without fear of prejudice as I would have done the same HAD I HAD THE POWER TO DO EVEN FOR THIS YOUNG BOY.SO, Bless you all.
